September Update: Things Mrs. G. wants and doesn't want to admit

Things Mrs. G. Wants to Admit

~Mrs. G. is excited about revamping her blog. It is going to be reminiscent of the old Women's Colony but different in all befitting ways. Despite learning everything she knows about technology from the Amish, Mrs. G. is building this site from the bottom up. Let's hear it for new tricks, old dogs.

~Mr. & Mrs. G. are successfully taking advantage of the Empty Nest. They have been more spontaneous just for the hell of it -- dinners out, uninhibited screaming matches, weekend trips planned, cooking optional.

~Mrs. G. wakes up every morning and thanks God that she doesn't have to placate assholes fixated on organic rotisserie chickens.

~After a the Financially Strapped Summer of the Bambinos, Mrs. G. was able to go out tonight and buy new shirts for Mr. G. and undergarments for herself. And just to grandstand, she bought Klondike Ice Cream Sandwiches...not on sale.

~The three tomato plants Mr. G. planted have yielded, easily, 75 tomatoes. Tomorrow, Mrs. G. is attempting to make fresh marinara sauce.

~Mrs.G's daughter loves her new job (her first paycheck yielded her an awesome cut and color)...

and Mrs. G's son has fallen for New York.

Things Mrs. G. Doesn't Want to Admit

~Despite Mrs. G's success with dealing with the empty nest, she frequently wakes up in her son's bed. Disturbing? Maybe. Weird? Probably. But it's the truth and she's dealing with it.

~It appears the Bigger Love movie isn't going to happen. Mrs. G. will give you the full story soon, but for now, give her a couple of weeks to feel sorry for herself. Mrs. G. said no three times when she was approached by the A&E Network to option her blog, mainly because she has been through YOU ARE SO AWESOME! projects falling through at the last minute. Last week, true to form, this project bit the dust. Mrs. G. is trying to be gracious, but it is slightly killing her that the network of Dance Moms and Supermarket Superstar has written her work off as pedestrian. Tears continue to sporadically fall, but now that Mrs. G. has new undergarments things should start looking up.

Actually, no new bras or underwear can ease this particular disappointment speedy quick, but Mrs. G. is putting on a brave face for you because she's not sure what else to do.

"Depp will help give life to Miguel de Cervantes's famed character Don Quixote in a modern-day film for Disney, Deadline.com reports. The actor is set to produce the movie about the hero of La Mancha, but no word yet on whether he'll be acting in the project. Hewitt will executive produce a Lifetime movie based on a post from Heather Gattuccio's blog Derfwad ManorDeadline.com reports. In the blog post, the happily married mother dreams of polygamy with A-list stars. The movie tells a new version of the story of a bored homemaker's fictional blog about her own polygamy but when she starts getting noticed for her online presence, she must keep up the charade."

~Mrs. G's dog Gus won't shit outside if it's raining. You might recall Mrs. G. lives in Seattle, where rain falls, on average, 150 days per year. Please send advice or prayers.

~Mrs. G's dog Chewie is perfect, faultless, and Mrs. G. struggles not to favor him. That's a lie. There is no struggle, she favors him. Please send advice and prayers.

It's late and that about covers it. Feel free to share what you do or don't want to admit. No pressure. Mrs. G. has no shortage on her plate, but it's still cathartic to know she's not alone.

  4. I've been thinking about you, Mrs. G. Sending you good vibes. Also, my dog won't shit outside when it's raining or very snowy until she is downright desperate. She is made of sugar and believes she may melt. Sometimes I have to go outside and stand in the yard with her where as usually I just open the back door and she comes back and stands at it when she's done. You're probably already going outside with Gus in which case, I got nothin' for ya.

    2. Sadly, have resorted to puppy pads for 13 year old dog that won't poo outside in rain or snow either. But he will poo in your vehicle on the way to the groomers. Ask Miss H about the incident in her new vehicle and the crying cellphone call when dropping him at groomers.

Unfortunately there are many people that lack compassion and enjoy trying to hurt others. Please think about this, try to lose the jealousy, pettiness and malevolence, once you find compassion and joy in your life, you will that you will become a much happier person.

  12. Mrs. G...
So sorry to hear about the show. You would think America is tired of moms paying to have a crazed dance instructor yell at their kids, or bleach blondes way too done up for real life moms trying to "just keep their human alive" or Housewives that do nothing but stab each other in the back and wouldn't know how to clean a house if their lives depended on it or country bumkins that give a totally stupid insight into backwoods living or Oh my God the list is endless...Arts & Entertainment...no more Arts and a totally skewed view of Entertainment. But that's ok the Bio channel is anything but and the History channel wouldn't know history if it bit them in the butt...
This door has closed, grieve a little but not too much...there is something else out there that needs your attention...find it.
Oh and your Mom...well, take the best of her and forget the rest and do better with your two...somewhere through the haze of elder living is a good memory of your mom...find that too, hold onto it and just move on...
A friend posted this yesterday and it just fits...

As for the people who want to give you guff...really, people's problems are people's problems. Why does there have to be a value judgement about those?

Writing shit that matters? It matters to me that people I consider my friends are hurting (even though we either have not yet met, or only met once). No one is happy all the time.

Heather- sorry to hear about the movie option and the optional Mom situation. Most of us here like our truth unadulterated and real but there are those that like the sugar coated version. Oh well...
Can't help w/ the reluctant pooper except to say that we have a friend who put up a shade type structure and their dogs have determined that "the go to spot" much to their dismay. Maybe a small yard sale tent you can cut the bottom out of and move as needed? Maybe worth a shot?

The alternative to "empty nesting" is failure to launch which is honestly MUCH more concerning .Enjoy dancing in the kitchen in your new underwear!

As for me, today I help my best friends choose a casket for a man who was more of a father to me than my own. The nicest and kindest man I have ever known, he was a gift to everyone he ever met. I consider myself lucky to have been included in his circle of family for 49 years. Sometimes "family" comes in the most unusual places and you just breathe and say "THANK YOU".

Keep doing what you do Heather and don't let anyone steal your enthusiasm or joy! Bramble

  21. Wow, looks like some trolls didn't get taken out for their shit in the rain either. Not that it would matter. At least the dogs would come back inside happier than when they went out.

You have a fantastic blog and IMHO it should be deemed a national treasure. You are funny, intelligent and so very human. And brave. You help me to be a more honest and brave person in my daily life. For that I can never thank you enough. You are awesome!

  22. One reason that we are reading your blog is that we all have the same problems, in one way or another. And it's interesting to see how other people navigate these problems and it's wonderful if someone can be funny about them and some community is a comforting thing...keep right on going, please, Mrs. G. You are not whining, you are sharing. And because of what's going on in my own life, when you shared that about your mom, I wondered, is she well? Navigating relationships with our elders becomes more and more difficult; dementia can be subtle and it is always pernicious.
Marriage, kids, home, beloved animals, work, elders; it is all interesting, the good and the bad.

  23. So sad to hear about the movie. And I hope your mom starts speaking to you again soon.

My new little dog Rocky does not like to poop outside when it rains either. And I'm not sure how he's going to like the feet of snow that we get every winter seeing as he's half chihuahua and half daschund and built pretty low to the ground. When it rains, I put him on his leash and put him down next to the steps where he's still sheltered by the roof overhang. Usually that works. When it doesn't, his fav place to leave a present is in my bedroom. Good times.

And I won't comment on trolls who hate you and your writing and yet hunt all over the internet to find your "fourteenth" blog so they can tell you how much they hate you and your writing. *eyeroll*

    ReplyDelete
  24. Those of us who WANT to find you, Mrs. G, will follow you through all 14 blog addresses to do so. What is interesting is how the people who DON'T like you will also follow you to 14 different blog addresses to tell you so, huh? People who persist in being unpleasant and will go to great lengths to do so. Me? I tend to stop following people who bug me. It's so much easier.

Sorry about the movie deal. I was looking forward to that. Congrats on your tomatoes. I have never had much luck with tomatoes (or any other plants really, but I had high hopes for the tomatoes). I admire people who can make things grow.

    1. Thanks, kjax! I think some people don't get that I move my blog around because it excites me, like redecorating my living room. I know it's hard to believe, but not all bloggers are looking to attract many thousands of readers. I let that dream go several years ago. We can't all be Dooce and Pioneer Woman (though I have respect for both). Sometimes my sneaky moves are efforts to keep things intimate. Imagine! Consider me the Dave Chappelle of blogging (smiley emoticon).

My big fearsome German shepherd has forgotten that it rains, courtesy of our beautiful summer. She must now be coaxed, shivering, from the basement bathroom outside to do her business. She should recover from this phobia right around July.

  27. Things I want to admit: I always enjoy reading Mrs. G. I am a white woman living in a first world country, and I have some problems. They are first world white woman problems because that is what I am. I don't think that should make them less valid. I just began seeing a therapist, and I already feel a bit better. Mrs. G, in writing about your problems, you have helped me to stop denying my own and to seek help. So thank you for that!

I am disappointed about the movie, I thought it would be fun. Oh well. It's true that a lot of things like that fall through. Hopefully something better will come along.

I imagine it would be both wonderful and terrible when your kids leave the nest. You miss them like crazy but also relish the freedom at the same time. It'll take time to adjust.

  30. Who are these miserable people voicing such rude and idiotic opinions? You got where you are by being honest and funny and that's why we love you. My daughter's ED gave me a lot of perspective on life and this has been a favorite aphorism of ours for a while. "It will all be okay in the end--if it's not okay, it's not the end."

And guess what, trolls? White women are allowed to have problems and down days and have life suck now and then. It's just in bad taste if we were to equate our struggles with those whose struggles are objectively and demonstrably harder. Which Mrs. G. never does.

By way of example, this white woman woke up in a pretty good mood after getting 12 hours of sleep to make up for the all-nighter she pulled a few days ago--entailed by the terrible flooding in Colorado. So my being tired is legitimate and I have whined a bit about it, but I don't equate my suffering to those that lost lives and homes in the same flooding that cost me some zzzz's. Also? you trolls ruined by good mood by being such mean, pissy, assholes.

Mrs. G. is more polite than I and doesn't have nearly the potty mouth, so I'm going to have to chime in with F*ck off.

That said, I may be wrong, but my gut tells me many of the trolls who continue to show up are her rabid supporters (she can't help that they are nuts) who just can't let what happened five years back go. I never had troll problems until that scene went down.Again, I may be off the mark here.

    2. Nah, I think you are spot on. I think it's the PW sycophants who can't give it up. Must be miserable to be that petty and to harbor ill will for so long. That is a HUGE time suck in the grand scheme of things. I'd much rather spend time on things I like and support them rather than focusing on the negative and sniping from the bushes. What sad little lives they must lead.

  32. I'll bet the anons who posted never complain about anything, since they have Internet access and appear to live in the first world. Good for them!

However, sometimes we have to bitch--and while thankful that we have potable water and a non-tyrannical gov't (you did hear me snort right there, no?)--I think we're allowed to.

I don't waste my time reading shit that annoys me. I know it's tempting sometimes, but why bother, ANON(s)? Life's too short to spend it all riled up about a random person you don't agree with on the Internet-- another first world problem!

A huge work-related movie deal that fell through, a mother who isn't acting like herself and the empty nest are a little more stressful than Anthropologie not having that shirt in your size or Starbucks fucking up your order--again!

And no one bitches quite as wittily as Mrs. G. I actually LOL'd. And I'm sorry about the movie and your mom. I was also wondering about dementia, as another commenter mentioned.

I can't even imagine having both of them on opposite sides of the country. Whole Paycheck doesn't deserve your lovely self in their deli department, and you know what? Wifetime doesn't deserve your awesome story either. If I win the lottery I'll find enough in there to get Johnny a starring role in the series that you will direct!

I want to admit that I am loving my new life; I'm interviewing for a job that I really want tomorrow, and I think I've found the perfect apartments for me and my little one. I don't want to admit that I am missing being married sometimes, and I have gained weight despite my best efforts. Ugh, oh well. Here's to a great week for all of us!

  34. I read somewhere that we (take a deep breath... middle-aged women) are not the desirable demographic advertisers seek, and that's why the shitty selection on TV. It turns out we don't typically succumb to the "witty" commercials, huh.

I think we should be proud the advertising community recognizes we are thinkers -- but they might just want to consider the younger folks don't seem to watch commercials at all.

I'm sorry life has thrown you some lemons of late, Mrs. G., I know you will meet each challenge with panache and wit with a dash of f*ck you when needed.

Keep it up woman -- we need you.

  36. Oh, I forgot to say...maybe the problem is with pets named Gus. I caught my cat Gus (who I love dearly) peeing all over the living room sofa this morning. Lovely. Hang in there. At least you have tomatoes! I'm so jealous!

  37. This is the thing that always slays me with trolls - my blog, my rules. If you don't like it don't read it.

I come to the Manor because I like your truthtelling, I like your storytelling, I like this community. I like the support we provide for each other.

Mrs G, I am delighted to see the happy smiling G kid faces as they start out into the big wide world. I have no idea for Gus and I totally get having a favourite dog. The Big Black Dog was def second best to the Old Man Dog no matter how much I tried to kid myself otherwise. as fir sleeping in your boy's bed I totally get it. When CK is away for work I sleep on his side of the bed.

    1. I am so conflicted regarding trolls. I really am. On one hand, I don't like blogs that sanitize/delete comments so everything seems like one big hand-holding Lilith Fair if you know what I'm saying.

On the other hand, it gets old and I hate that the trolls succeed in getting attention. And are they really trolls if they are just voicing a critical opinion. Isn't the definition of troll a person who keeps coming back over and over to stir up shit, stalker like?

I've struggled with this issue for years.

      Thoughts?

    2. Constructive criticism is one thing -- attacking a person is quite a different thing. In the blog world, if you don't like what you are reading, why read it at all? And most certainly, why bother to comment on that dislike unless you are feeling cruel?
Obviously, there can be discussion but that would fall under constructive criticism. Trolls who anonymously attack need to go get a life -- it doesn't have to be paid work, but it should be something to rescue them from their insecurity and sad little existence.

    3. Just when I decide to reply, someone beats me to it! Personal attacks are not a critical opinion and I have no problem with them being deleted.

      Delete
    4. I understand your interest in constructive criticism, but there is nothing constructive about what these folks are writing. They're just petty and cruel and lack character. If they had honest dissent and valuable suggestions they wouldn't be using "anonymous".

  38. When my son was away on a three day school trip last week, I went in to his room and smelled and hugged his old lovey/stuffed animal that still lives on his bed. We love and miss our kids. What of it? Who's the freak who doesn't understand that?

  40. Thanks for the update on the good, the not so good and the bad. Sorry to hear about the show and your mother. The empty nest is fun, but it does take getting use to. Thanks for keeping it real and keeping it interesting! Have a great rest of the week!!

  43. Did you see this article about a bad obit? Wow...I cannot imagine how this woman behaved to have her kids write this. Pretty crazy.

  45. Oh, and as for the t.v. movie...your writing is far too good and witty for those people. Hmmm...seems Vince Gilligan is going to have some free time soon. Can you "cook"?

  46. My thoughts about the TV movie were that unless YOU were writing the screenplay, we'd all end up hating it because they would have changed it too much!!
Still, I know it must hurt, and I'm sorry.

  47. Entitled? Quite the opposite Anon. You seem like you should be trolling the comments on YouTube. Or any other place where the bottom feeders hang out. I'd also bet $10 you are a man?

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm sorry to hear about the movie. I was looking forward to seeing it :).

I'm also looking forward to seeing the new blog. It's a challenge to build a site from the ground up when you haven't done it before, and I'm all for stretching and taking on new challenges.

What everyone said about the trolls above. Times a thousand. Pbbbbt.

I liked it there, I like it here, and I'm sure I'm going to like the new place once I get over the panic that change usually induces :).

  49. Mrs. G, just keep writing, you rock. Never stop. Fuck the trolls. Too bad about the movie, but like Stephen King and Elmore Leonard, you probably wouldn't have liked what they did with your work, anyway. And yes, you can write as kick-ass as either of those two gentlemen.

Life is full of transitions and changes. I'm going through some too, and it's nice to know I have companions out there in the world.

  50. Well, I'm not the brightest bulb in the pack, but I'd hazard a guess that Anonymous up there doesn't like you much. Just a feeling I have...

  51. Let's just say that it MIGHT be f***ed up if her grown son were still IN his bed, but he is on the other side of the country. I know perfectly stable, high-functioning women thrown for a loop when their kids leave home - sleeping with the phone under the pillow, waiting for a call, etc. It's perfectly normal - a big change.

    ReplyDelete
  52. It occurred to me that you have a family member who will be someday writing for TV (young Mr. G, am I correct?) and perhaps it is best to wait for a Gattuccio and Gattuccio production. (Insert big smiley face here!)

  53. Mean people suck. They make me sad. But it makes me happy that so many awesome readers have your back.

And renege-ers on movie deals suck. Because I couldn't wait to see your awesome self in a movie, but they probably reneged (and no I can't spell) because they knew they could never do you justice and the Women's Colony would have staged a huge revolt. Just sayin'

And finally, the dog. My former dog Chessie (Queen Bee on the blog) was born in a drought. It didn't rain until she was 3 months old and well house-trained. I had to get the biggest golf umbrella I could find and walk her under that. Eventually as a lab she realized she LIKED the rain, but until then, a big golf umbrella might work? And for the small dog we later acquired, let's just say I'm glad we had a big overhang over the front door with a spot of dirt/garden behind the bushes where she could do her business in the rain/snow....

    GOOD LUCK AND LOVE YOU!!!
